A Vote For Ted Cruz Is A Vote For The American Dream, The Constitution, And The Greatness of America

By February 29, 2016POLITICS & CULTURE

Very few times in the recent decades of politics have we had this many qualified, gifted, and choice conservative candidates to choose from in an election cycle. The 2016 elections brought to the limelight the best the conservative movement had to offer and we had much to look forward to.

While the Democratic side gave us their best: two white, senior citizen, socialists in Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders (Yes, this is the party of diversity!), we had young, articulate, and bright leaders who stood for our values.

That is, until Donald Trump came onto the scene. And what has ensued has been nothing short of a never-before-seen spectacle that may change American politics forever.

Now we are at a crossroads in American history. Who will we choose?

You see, whoever we choose, we will, in effect, be choosing a different future for America and for the conservative movement. A future determined by the leader’s character, values, beliefs, abilities, inabilities, flaws, and deficiencies. All of a person’s leadership and personality come into play when he or she becomes the leader of the land. Decisions are made everyday on every issue that our nation faces.

Who can handle that kind of pressure? Who has the character to do what is best for the PEOPLE, even if it means losing popularity and going against his own party? Who has the knowledge and wisdom to lead, guided by principles that work and principles that have made this nation great? Who has proven in the past that he or she can do exactly what is promised?

At this point in the primaries, we are down to three serious contenders on the Republican side. Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz, and Donald Trump. But there is only one of the three that truly stands out to me as the man for the hour; a man primed and prepared to lead this country and lead her to greatness again at this critical point: Ted Cruz.

So let’s talk about Cruz for a minute. His story is one of legends.

His dad, Rafael Cruz was born in Cuba and as a young political revolutionary, he actually join the fight for Fidel Castro to overthrow the oppressive, military Batista government that was ruling Cuba at the time. He believed in Castro and his cause, which was, ironically, hope and change. He came to America without knowing hardly any English in the beginning but managed to earn a degree in mathematics from UT Austin. When he returned to Cuba, the country had completely changed under Fidel Castro. Hope and change they did get, but not what the people expected at all. The country had turned communist. Rafael escaped Cuba by seeking political asylum in America, never, ever to return again.

Rafael knew instantly that America was different. It was the land of opportunity that he had never experienced in Cuba. He learned what had made this country great: the Constitutional and biblical foundations that birthed this nation. His love for the country was instilled in Ted from an early age.

A precocious child, Rafael began reading to Cruz the bible and talking to him about government and the Constitution. In high school, he was chosen to participate in a group called Free Market Education Foundation which taught them free market economics and then the Constitutional Corroborators which focused on the U.S. Constitution. They were even taught to memorize the whole Constitution. By the end of high school, Cruz had given 70 to 80 speeches on free market economics and government and graduated valedictorian. He went on to Princeton to study public policy. He paid his way through college by working two jobs because his parents could not afford the Ivy League tuition. Even so, he became a national champion in debate, with Princeton even naming a championship after him, and graduated cum laude. He went on to Harvard law school where he served as a primary editor of the Harvard Law Review, graduating magna cum laude.

All this knowledge doesn’t really mean anything in the real world. Yet Ted Cruz has turned his knowledge into action and went on to fight for many conservative causes.

After college, he clerked for Chief Justice, William Rehnquist, becoming the first Hispanic to do so.

Even as a private lawyer and when he served as Solicitor General for Texas, Cruz went out and sought cases in which to defend the U.S. Constitution. He authored over 80 U.S. Supreme Court briefs, argued 43 oral arguments, and nine before the U.S. Supreme Court. His passion has always been to defend the U.S. Constitution. He defended U.S. sovereignty against the UN and the World Court in Medellin v. Texas and won. He defended the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms and won. He defended the right for the Texas State Capitol to have the Ten Commandments monument on its grounds. He defended the words “under God” in our Pledge of Allegiance. I would have to argue that he has done more for the conservative movement, for the church, for religious freedom, and for the the Constitution than any other candidate still left in the race.

In the U.S. Senate, he led in fighting to repeal Obamacare and halt Obama’s executive amnesty. He has defended the First Amendment, the Second Amendment, and the whole Bill of rights, the right to life, and traditional marriage.

His record in the Senate proves that he has done exactly what he promised to do when he ran for the Senate and that is the kind of leader we need at this critical point in our nation’s history. Anyone who digs deeper into the records of the candidates can see that Ted Cruz has not wavered in his conservative values and has fought courageously and WON many of the toughest battles against the liberal assault on our freedoms and our constitutional rights.

Yes, the battle for this country is a battle of whether to defend the U.S. Constitution or not. I wholeheartedly believe that.

If you are angry at the incompetence and cowardice of the Republican Establishment, Ted Cruz is the candidate to change things because he has actually PROVEN to do just that in the past. He has gone against his party and called weak senators out for compromising. He is not afraid to speak the truth and lose party favor for doing it.

He is not perfect, he has made mistakes, he may not be liked by many in the Establishment (which is not such a bad thing), but he is a man of character. He is a Christian who accepted Christ at the age of eight. He is a faithful family man who is father to two little girls. Ted Cruz is someone who loves this country and knows what has made her great. His life story shows this, even from childhood to now. He has lived the American Dream and knows what it takes to make it in the real world from humble beginnings. He values the freedoms we have in this country and knows how fragile those freedoms are in a hostile world. As his dad often reminded him since he was a little kid, “When we faced oppression in Cuba, I had a place to flee to. If we lose our freedom here, where do we go?”

I hate to break it to you, but America may never return to her former greatness ever again. Too many mistakes have been made by former leaders. Our borders have become porous to millions of illegal immigrants and potential terrorists that we are now left with no easy solution. The scope of government has ballooned, exhausting too much of our budget that we can’t even afford. Our debt may be irreversibly too high to pay back before China comes calling for its money. Progressivism has advanced, taking our country towards socialism and communism for a century now. Our religious freedoms have eroded beyond anything the founding fathers ever intended. The moral character of our people have decayed. President Obama has abused his executive power in an unprecedented manner to shove his liberal agenda down the American people’s throats. The threat of ISIS and radial Islam grows more dangerous everyday. And that is just the tip of the iceberg.

We are demanding change from the Republican party. But what kind of change are we looking for? Whoever we choose to make those drastic changes will determine whether American will rise again, or fall to the wayside as many great nations have done before.

You see, our political system, as set up by the founding fathers and laid out in our Constitution and the Bill of Rights, IS NOT BROKEN. The government, with its separation of powers, with its different branches, with “We the People” as the boss, is the most brilliant political idea ever conceived in human history. That is what has made America the freest, most prosperous nation on earth. Where we have erred is when we have taken detours from the political framework laid out in the Constitution. Which seems to be the liberals’ most ardent crusade. They see the U.S. Constitution as the biggest impediment to their cause of setting up their progressive, liberal, socialist, communist vision for America in which government becomes God, religion is dead and outlawed, illegal immigrants and terrorists are welcomed, and the government takes control over everything that once belonged to the people. That is the liberals’ ultimate destination.

That is why voting for a strong Constitutionalist as the Republican candidate against the socialist, Democratic candidate is so critical to the survival of this nation. Many conservative leaders have warned how dangerously close we are to losing our Republic, including Tony Perkins, President of the Family Research Council.

“If we don’t elect a bold, courageous, godly leader in this next election, I’m afraid we may not have another election for our republic,” Perkins declared. “That is not hyperbole.”

Ted Cruz is the strongest Constitutional conservative in the pack and second in delegate counts behind Donald Trump right now. His campaign finances are strong and has proven that he can win.

Don’t get me wrong, Marco Rubio is also a good choice. He is a young, very articulate, very pro-life, conservative leader who I could easily vote for if it came down to it. But he is not the reformer, proven leader, brilliant mind, and unwavering Constitutionalist that Ted Cruz has been for decades.

It is not about party lines anymore. As Nebraska senator, Ben Sasse, eloquently explained over the weekend in an open letter to Trump supporters, once the party ceases to help the conservative cause, we must look elsewhere. If Trump becomes the party nominee, Senator Sasse said he cannot in good conscience vote for him because Trump does not value and will not uphold the U.S. Constitution, nor is he at all a conservative, amongst many other troublesome reasons.

We may want to run as fast as we can in the opposite direction that the liberals are taking this country, but Trump will not turn America around and he will not halt the liberal assault. He is, essentially, in bed with liberals, having funded and vocally supported their causes for years, and is proud of “making deals” with them to get business done.

And you know Trump’s campaign will inevitably implode in the general election even if he wins the nomination. Just in the last few days, he knowingly and unashamedly quoted fascist leader Mussolini (Italy’s Hitler twin during WWII), he promised to censor the press if it criticized him, and refused to denounce the KKK. As Erick Erickson pointed out, Trump will be so radioactive, with all his explosive remarks, his scandalous history (that just keeps on giving), and his bent towards fascism, demagoguery, and dictatorship, that even his own supporters will deny him.

I know our nation is in trouble. But Donald Trump is not the answer. Marco Rubio is a close second. But I believe Ted Cruz is the best candidate who can turn things around. He is the best hope for the survival of the Republic. He is brilliant. He is solid. He has the best, proven, conservative solutions to the most important issues our nation faces right now. And he has proven that he will execute on what he says he will do.

I want Ted Cruz’s vision for America of a free and prosperous people, uninhibited by the government to pursue the American dream and opportunity for all. Where our borders are secure and our people are safe. Where the law upholds We the People’s rights. Where the U.S. Constitution is respected and followed. Where checks and balances are again in place to curb any abuse of power. Where free markets are allowed to flourish and our economy can recover and thrive. Where life is protected and natural marriage is held in high esteem. Where the place of God and religion is once again respected by our leaders.

That is why I can stand behind Ted Cruz. Because a vote for Ted Cruz is a vote for the American Dream, the Constitution, and the greatness of America.

I too have been grieved by this election and the fear that Trump could be the GOP candidate. However, I am also grieved by the behavior of the other candidates, especially Cruz and Rubio. They have been behaving like children throwing temper tantrums. Their words will come back to haunt them in the general election when they are forced to support a GOP candidate. These words will be thrown back at them by the democratic candidate who probably will be Hillary. Right now I am praying for wisdom and insight on how to vote in the primary although the California vote won’t count at all. It will be decided way before our primary. The strongest thing I can do is pray. Cruz has some good qualities but as with some others there has been dirty politics by his campaign. His campaign has not taken the higher road as a few candidates such as Carson who has no chance to win.

Thank you Lisa for writing another great post. Thanks also for sharing the history of Ted Cruz and everyone can see by his voting record that he is the best choice for President of the United States. Thanks for the thoughtful, and insightful, blog post. Your blog post, plus Rubio’s involvement in the Gang of Eight, has sold me on Ted Cruz for President.
